Founded in 2015 and based in Kyoto, Japan, Metro Weather Co., Ltd. develops and manufactures compact Doppler lidar systems. Its Wind Guardian, released in June 2022, shows wind conditions up to 15 kilometers away for drone operations, urban planning and disaster prevention. In September 2026 it raised JPY 1.5 billion in Series B funding from Incubate Fund and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and the funds are for object detection lidar for defense and critical infrastructure.
