Poseidona develops soy protein alternatives from seaweed and algal waste.
Founded in Barcelona in 2023 by Sònia Hurtado and María Cermeño, Poseidona develops seaweed-based protein alternatives using algal waste and invasive biomass. Its approach is intended to reduce water, land, and carbon use compared with animal and conventional plant proteins. In March 2024, the company raised EUR 1.1 million in pre-seed funding led by Faber Ventures, with Dozen Investments, Sprout & About Ventures, ProVeg International, and Women Angels for STEAM participating. It plans to develop and commercialize a soy protein concentrate using Mediterranean rugulopterix okamurae.
