Ernõ Rubik, a professor in Budapest, built the first working prototype to help architecture students with three-dimensional problems. Toy specialist Tom Kremer saw the Magic Cube demonstrated in Nuremberg in 1979, and in 1980 he convinced the Ideal Toy Company to distribute it as Rubik's Cube. Retail sales reached USD 250 Million in 2018.
