Founded in 2019 and based in Madrid, Silbat develops electricity storage technology using molten silicon. The system converts electricity into heat stored in silicon and converts that heat back to electricity using thermophotovoltaic cells. EIT InnoEnergy provided venture funding in April 2023. The company was founded by CEO Ignacio Luque-Heredia and CSO Antonio Luque.
