StimAire, Inc. is developing a minimally invasive nerve-stimulation device for obstructive sleep apnea that does not require CPAP equipment.
StimAire was founded in 2017 in Tucson, US, by Tarek Makansi to develop a treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. Its investigational device is a rice-grain-sized implant, placed by injection under local anesthesia, that stimulates the hypoglossal nerve, paired with a peel-and-stick wearable that helps keep the airway open during sleep. The device is not yet approved, and the company plans to sell to healthcare providers and medical institutions after clinical trials, starting with the U.S. market. In November 2019 StimAire raised an undisclosed amount in Series A funding, its first round.
