Synergia Medical makes optoelectronic neurostimulators, including MRI-safe implants for drug-resistant epilepsy.
Based in Belgium and founded in 2013 by Attila Borbath and Pascal Doguet, Synergia Medical SA develops optoelectronics-based implantable neurostimulation devices. Its devices use photovoltaic cells to turn light into electrical impulses instead of traditional wires, aiming at drug-resistant epilepsy and other therapies. In February 2018 it raised EUR 8.1 million in Series A financing led by Newton Biocapital, with participation from Financière Spin-Off Luxembourgeoise, SFPI-FPIM and SRIW.
