Tensorfield Agriculture develops thermal micro-jetting machines for weed control and crop thinning in specialty row crops.
Tensorfield Agriculture, founded in 2018 and based in San Jose, US, builds precision farming equipment that uses superheated vegetable oil to kill weeds. Its semi-autonomous machine has a 232-nozzle array, treats one 80-inch bed at 1.2 mph, and covers about one acre per hour regardless of weed density. The company was established by Louise Thomas and Sandeep Mirchandani, with Xiong Chang as CEO, and raised seed funding from SOSV in October 2018. It is trialing the system on carrots, spinach, and lettuce, mainly for West Coast growers.
