Unibio uses microbial fermentation to produce protein for animal feed and other uses.
Founded in 2001 in Roskilde, Denmark, Unibio develops fermentation technology to produce protein without arable land and with low water use. Its continuous-flow process transforms methane into protein that can supplement animal feed or serve as an alternative to fishmeal, with potential for human food use. Partners include BioMar, Danish Agro, DTU and Innovations Fonden. In March 2023, Unibio raised USD 70 million from Saudi Industrial Investment Group to expand operations and manufacturing capacity.
